GENERAL SERVICES

Using Student Health Services

There are three ways you can be seen by a medical provider. You can make an advanced appointment, an appointment for same day services or you can walk in. Walk-ins can be seen in Urgent Care; however patients with the most urgent medical needs have priority over those with less immediate concerns. Upon entering Student Health Services, go directly to the Information/Same Day Appointments window. The nursing staff will assess your needs and direct you to the appropriate area. All students must bring a photo ID. or a current SDSU ID. Our longest wait times in urgentcare are between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. While we try our best to see patients within 20 minutes of check-in, it is most challenging during these hours. Visiting us before 10 a.m. or after 2 p.m., or scheduling an appointment in advance increases your chances of being seen in a more timely manner.

Scheduling Appointments

  1. Whenever possible, you should schedule an advanced appointment to see a health care provider. Scheduling an appointment can reduce your waiting time. You may also request to see a specific health care provider.

  2. Appointments can be made in person or you can call Student Health Services to schedule an appointment. You may make appointments for the same day or for a date in the future. For Same Day Appointments, call 619-594-5058. For future appointments, call 619-594-4736 or 619-594-4737.

  3. Arrive at Student Health Services 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time.

  4. Report to the area where you were instructed to be seen for your appointment (e.g. General Medicine North) and sign in.

  5. Remember to bring your SDSU ID.

  6. On your first visit, you will need to complete a few forms to initiate your medical record. Please allow extra time before your scheduled appointment to complete these forms

  7. A 24-hour advance notice for cancellations is appreciated in order to give other students the opportunity to be seen in your place. For cancellations, please call the appointment desk at 619-594-4736 or 619-594-4737.

Urgent Care

  1. If you need immediate medical assistance, you do not need to make an appointment. Come directly to Student Health Services during regular business hours. (For information on after hours care, click here.)

  2. Report to the nurse at the Information/Same Day Appointments window. Your health needs will be assessed and you will be directed to the appropriate area.

  3. Remember, you can request to see a specific health care provider. However, if your medical need is urgent, it might not be possible to accommodate your request.

  4. Remember to bring your SDSU ID.
