The San Diego State University Student Health Service Optometry Clinic (a division of the University of California, Berkeley University Eye Center) offers a comprehensive eye examination to diagnose, manage, and treat a range of vision problems. Services include an assessment of the visual refractive system, a glaucoma test, biomicroscopy, and a dilated retinal exam for the assessment of ocular diseases. Our eye examination will also detect ocular manifestations of systemic diseases, such as those related to diabetes, hypertension, and autoimmune disorders. Referrals may need to be made to your primary health care provider at Student Health Services or to a specialist based on our exam findings.
Periodic eye examinations are an important part of routine preventive health care. Many ocular conditions present no obvious symptoms. Individuals are therefore often unaware that a problem exists. Early diagnosis and treatment are important for maintaining good vision and when possible, for preventing permanent vision loss.
Eye examinations are provided by the faculty and senior interns of the University of California, Berkeley School of Optometry, Meredith W. Morgan University Eye Center. On completion of the eye exam, you may need a prescription for eyeglasses. Prescriptions for glasses can be filled at our Optometry Clinic. We offer a wide selection of eyeglass frames to choose from as well as special prescription lens features. These include anti-reflective coatings, ultra thin, polarized, and variable tint lenses. In addition, we offer contact lens fitting service and fill contact lens prescriptions. There are a variety of contact lenses available including disposable, gas permeable, astigmatism, and colored contacts. Sunglasses are available with or without a prescription.
